Bien que la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line porte ce nom, la leuc\u00e9mie est une maladie virale tr\u00e8s dangereuse (pas tumorale, bien qu’elle puisse en \u00eatre la cause), incurable et hautement transmissible entre chats de la rue et chats non vaccin\u00e9s correctement. Il est donc tr\u00e8s important de son identification pr\u00e9coce chez le v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire et sa pr\u00e9vention par la vaccination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comme nous l’avons dit, la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line, ou FeLV, est un r\u00e9trovirus tr\u00e8s commun chez les chats dont l’affectation provoque une d\u00e9pression du syst\u00e8me immunitaire. Les affectations qui causent le plus souvent des probl\u00e8mes de croissance chez les petits chats et augmentent la possibilit\u00e9 de d\u00e9velopper un certain type de cancer, mais peuvent entra\u00eener la mort chez les chats.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Les principaux sympt\u00f4mes de la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line chez le chat peuvent \u00eatre tr\u00e8s vari\u00e9s. Ils souffrent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement de diverses maladies, d’\u00e9tats f\u00e9briles, de l\u00e9thargie, de perte d’app\u00e9tit et de poids, de mauvaise qualit\u00e9 des cheveux, de faiblesse g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e, d’an\u00e9mie, d’infections… et d\u00e9veloppent souvent une forme de cancer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nous tenons \u00e0 souligner avant tout que le virus de la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line n’affecte pas les autres animaux ou les humains, seulement les chats.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

La transmission de la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line se fait par contact direct et \u00e9change de fluides corporels entre chats. Cela signifie qu’il peut \u00eatre transmis d’un chat malade \u00e0 un chat en bonne sant\u00e9 par le toilettage, les bagarres, les morsures, l’accouplement ou m\u00eame parfois le partage de mangeoires ou d’abreuvoirs. Elle se transmet \u00e9galement par le lait maternel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lorsqu’un chat est infect\u00e9 par la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line, le degr\u00e9 de la maladie d\u00e9pend de son syst\u00e8me immunitaire ; trois choses peuvent arriver. Une partie des chats, les plus forts, sont immunis\u00e9s. D’autres chats se d\u00e9barrassent du virus, ils ne tombent pas malades, mais ils restent porteurs du virus latent qui peut \u00eatre r\u00e9activ\u00e9 \u00e0 tout moment. La derni\u00e8re partie des chats est infect\u00e9e ; ils peuvent continuer \u00e0 avoir une bonne qualit\u00e9 de vie gr\u00e2ce aux traitements v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires ou ils peuvent d\u00e9velopper des maladies li\u00e9es au virus de la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Il n’existe pas de m\u00e9dicaments ou de m\u00e9dicaments v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires pour traiter le virus de la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line ; la seule chose que le v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire peut faire est de faire des traitements de soutien pour les sympt\u00f4mes et les maladies caus\u00e9s afin que les chats aient une bonne qualit\u00e9 de vie. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Comme la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line est une maladie incurable qui affecte nos chats, sa pr\u00e9vention par la vaccination du v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire est tr\u00e8s importante. Le vaccin contre la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line est capable de pr\u00e9venir l’infection des chats sains, mais si un chat est d\u00e9j\u00e0 malade, il ne sera pas efficace. Les chats en bonne sant\u00e9 peuvent \u00eatre lib\u00e9r\u00e9s, avec une efficacit\u00e9 de pr\u00e8s de 100%, de la maladie de la leuc\u00e9mie f\u00e9line. Il est donc recommand\u00e9 que le v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire vaccine tous les chats, ceux qui quittent la maison et ceux qui ne le font pas. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
