This Halloween, the stars at Animal Salut have fur, paws and plenty of charm. We are sharing photos of the dogs and cats who have visited our grooming service over the past few days, along with an insight into how we care for their coats all year round.
We enjoy keeping these memories and sharing them with their families. Behind every photo is a grooming session adapted to the needs of each animal.
Dog grooming: care tailored to each dog
Coat type, skin condition and any tangles help us decide what care each dog needs. We also consider their age and how well they tolerate the session.
Our dog and cat grooming service in Barcelona offers bathing, haircuts and coat care, such as removing loose undercoat or detangling, depending on the individual case. Different coats need different maintenance, and the same haircut will not suit every dog.
If you have questions about caring for your dog’s coat between visits, we can advise you on suitable brushing and maintenance.
Halloween gives us a chance to share the results with a special keepsake, while coat care continues throughout the year.
Cat grooming at our centre
Cats also have their place at Animal Salut’s grooming service, and this year they feature in our Halloween gallery.
Although cats groom themselves, some need help keeping their coats in good condition. Tangles, matted fur or difficulty grooming themselves may call for professional care.
Cat grooming involves assessing both the condition of the coat and the cat’s tolerance of handling. Our aim is to provide the care they need without prolonging an uncomfortable situation.
Does cat grooming involve sedation?
At Animal Salut, we groom cats without sedation when they allow it. However, most of the cats we see require sedation, administered and supervised by a vet.
This decision is made individually. We consider the cat’s health, behaviour and the work their coat needs. We do not insist on grooming a cat while awake if handling causes significant stress or makes it difficult to work safely.
When sedation is considered necessary, the vet assesses whether it is appropriate for that animal and takes responsibility for administering and monitoring it. As with any veterinary procedure, its benefits and risks need to be assessed.
What should you do if your cat has tangles?
If you notice mats close to the skin or your cat becomes uncomfortable when brushed, ask for advice before trying to remove them. A cat’s skin is very thin and delicate: pulling on a mat can tear it and cause wounds that may become infected. Do not try to cut out mats with scissors either, as it is easy to injure skin caught within the fur.
You should also seek advice if your cat stops grooming or their coat changes in appearance: they may need a veterinary assessment as well as coat care.
We also offer cat grooming at home
As well as seeing cats at our centre, Animal Salut offers cat grooming at home. This avoids the journey, although the choice between home and the centre should depend on each cat’s needs.

Frequently asked questions about our dog and cat grooming service
Do you groom cats without sedation?
Yes, when the cat tolerates handling and their coat can be groomed this way. Most of the cats we see need sedation, always following a veterinary assessment and under veterinary supervision.
Can I choose between cat grooming at the centre and at home?
We offer both options and will advise you according to your cat’s needs. Visit our page on dog and cat grooming in Barcelona or contact us to find out more about home visits.
How often does my dog or cat need grooming?
It depends on their coat type, its condition and the care you can provide at home. We will advise you on suitable maintenance for your animal; there is no single schedule that suits them all.
